Marlon Brando: My Advice to the World

Interview with Marlon Brando

My advice to the world? You're serious? You think there is interest--from anyone--for advice from me?

Okay.

Advice to the world.

Hello, everyone: You don't know everything, and you never will. You especially don't know everything right now about anything, except how you feel, and everyone doesn't need to know your feelings. Share them with a chosen few. If you're really smart, you'll pour the feelings into a child or a friend or a parent you love; or a poem; or a painting; or a meal. Or take a nap. You--dear world--need to know that you'll get over things. You'll change. Wait. Be quiet.

Hello, everyone: Try not to cultivate cruelty as a style. A lot of people get attention and money and satisfaction by being mean. This is sad and this is unhealthy. Wait. Be quiet. Always remember that the person you're hurting could be someone you might like. Or it could be your sister. It could be you.

Hello, everyone: Most people are doing their best. Give them some space and some time. You don't have to like what they do. You also don't have to tell everyone how you feel. Wait. Be quiet.

Hello, everyone: In time things get simpler. You can see what it's all about. You can see what you really want and what you really need. You can see who really matters to you. Hang on for this acuity of vision, but while waiting--be quiet.

Hello, everyone: It--whatever your concept of it may be--is about taking care of each other. It's about love and respect. It's about knowing when to be quiet and when to speak up.

Will this suffice?
